Itv-f1.com has a good feature with ex Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle wherein he expresses his views on the new changes to F1, including his take on the new Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS, F1’s attempt to go ‘green’).
The big car manufacturers are dead keen of course given that they have the budgets and the road car technology transfer to enjoy. The difference between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ will undoubtedly increase with KERS. The tail-end teams won‘t have the resources to maximise the potential upsides.
He makes mention of the “uncomfortable ‘crossroads’” that F1 has found itself in, and asks once and for all: is Formula 1 “a sport, a show, a business or a high-tech R&D platform?” I’ve always thought of it as a business, or rather a giant advertisement. Still fun to watch though.
