BMW wins international engine of the year, again

BMW’s twin-turbo 3.0L inline six, otherwise known as the N54, has won the International Engine of the Year award. This marks the 4th year BMW has won the coveted title.

Porsche’s 3.6l turbo motor won Best Performance Engine of the Year… Which I don’t get. The Nissan GT-R’s VR38DETT placed 5th, which is pretty good. The BMW M5’s V10 placed 2nd and the M3’s V8 placed third.

Keep in mind that these awards are handed out by automotive journalists that probably have english degrees instead of engineering degrees. Also keep in mind that this is a subjective award where things like “smoothness” are taken into consideration, so it’s not a given that the best designed or best performing engine will win.
