Spied: Lexus IS test mule

Motor Authority is reporting that a very heavily camo’d Lexus IS was spotted testing on the Nurburgring. In the photos you can clearly see a hood bulge akin to that of the Lexus IS-F’s, as well as hood latches normally reserved only for race cars. Also apparent is a roll cage, but that’s not really indicative of anything other then safety.

My best guess is that the car is simply a test mule for a new power plant that Lexus might put in an IS coupe or some variation of the IS family of cars (or even crazier yet, some form of IS or GS series car to compete with the BMW M5 using the Lexus LF-A’s V10). Nevertheless, as we learned from the ZR1 spy photos, hood bulges are usually a good thing.

UPDATE: You can also clearly see a very unique fading white to blue (to darker blue) paint job on the car. That sort of helps explain some of the car’s camouflage.
