With all eyes on the Nissan GTR, people have forgot all about the other AWD turbo sports car out of Japan: the Mitusbishi EVO. Thankfully Jeremy Clarkson hasn’t, and in his latest Times Online piece he takes the new Mitsubish EVO X out for a little road test. Verdict? “Eye-wateringly brilliant.”
Of course there are lots of buttons you can press to make the handling different but those are for geeks and bores. All I can report is that the basics of this car – the core – are monumentally, toweringly, eye-wateringly brilliant.
Then there’s the speed. Yes, a Ferrari 430 is full of brio and passion but get an Evo X on your tail and I guarantee that, unless it’s being driven by a complete spanner, you will not be able to shake it off.
Sounds like a pretty solid endorsement to me.

A new photo of the HKS EVO X has surfaced. No performance figures as of yet; but it’ll have a lot to live up to if it hopes to compete with the HKS C230R Evo (although its pretty obvious this car isn’t targeted at the time attack circuit).
Auto Express compares thew Mitsubishi EVO X against the new Subaru Impreza STI and Audi S3; with the EVO X taking top honors. Now, if only it weren’t so ugly…
But the Evo’s real genius lies in its suspension. The ride is no longer crashy, and although not plush either, it never jars or jolts – unlike rivals.
It has been perfectly honed. There’s barely any roll or suspension movement, yet we can’t think of another car that glides as effortlessly or flows better over the rough roads of mid-Wales. It’s also beautifully balanced, has a sublime 4WD system, scalpel-sharp steering and stunning body control. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
